A JET engine is an ART and the US is ARTIST
Any country’s strategic friend or ally can be understood by how closely they are sharing their technological cooperation with the US and Western Europe technology is so strong and deep that makes them inseparable from each other, of course (France is an exception in this belief in self-reliance)
India and US are talking to build cooperation in jet engine making which is one of the crucial defence technology for any country since independence struggling to develop its jet engine tech.
India, of course, tried to build jet engine technology and initiated the KAVERI Engine program in the ’90s with the hope to power the TEJAS, but we failed and eventually, we rely upon general electric-made F414 engines for TEJAS and upcoming programs such as MK-II and AMCA.
So what now, will INDIA will ever be able to make its indigenous jet engine?
Yes!, recently India and US signed i-CET (initiative for critical and emerging technology), under which discussions are going for the transfer of technology of the F414 engine.
Why the F414 is the point of attraction?
1. High thrust — 22,000 pounds of thrust it can generate and be used to power multiple aircraft like Gripen (Sweden), Super Hornet (f-18), KF-21(S.Korea).
2. High reliability — over 10 million hours of tested flight time.
3. Low maintenance- reduce the cost of ownership ( as all the US products are ).
4. Digital Engine Control — first fighter engine with such capabilities helps to control the engine performance, which improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions (environmentally friendly).
5. Integrated Electronic Engine Instrumentation (IEE) — provides real-time data on the engine’s performance, which helps pilots to make informed decisions about aircraft operation.
The engine deal will open a new door for India’s technological advancement and the transfer of cutting-edge technology and hands-on experience will going to improve INDIA — US relationship beyond economic or Indo-Pacific partners.
Sooner INDIAN airspace roar with our jet engines
